About Thakral Group

The Thakral group of companies, which are family owned diversified companies, can trace its beginning back to 1905 as a small textile retail business in Bangkok. In 1936, the Thakrals' entrepreneurial spirit led them to Japan, with a continued focus on textiles. Later, the group ventured into several other countries, including Singapore and China in the 1950s and 1960s. At a time when the strategy of regionalization was still in the planning stage for most companies the Thakral family had already made inroads into foreign countries, which would later pave the way for the group's growth and diversification. Today the Thakral group of companies is one of Singapore's largest home-grown conglomerates with operations in over 24 countries, employing over 12,000 people worldwide.

While Thakral's roots were in trading and textiles - which is still part of the groups’ operations - the group today has well-established companies in the distribution (including logistics and warehousing) of IT hardware and software, electronics, appliances, white goods and consumables. Other companies within the group also focus on timepieces, office automation equipment, property, real-estate, hotels and resorts.
